Despite their complicated history and uncertain political significance, the relations between Belarus and the U.S. have not become an object of an independent research. With an exception of some widely discussed topics appearing in media sources from time to time, we as experts and the representatives of society in general, know little about the factual background of the bilateral relations, the significance of Belarus for the U.S. and the place of Belarus in the U.S. foreign policy.

The research program of Belarusian Institute of America “Belarus-U.S. in Focus” aims to address this situation. We are aiming to systematize the relevant data and analyze the political, economic and cultural relations between the two governments and societies, and support a productive discussion of the problems, possibilities, and prospects of the bilateral relations. This, in our opinion, can promote bilateral cooperation and allow to adequately assess the challenges, risks, and prospects of the bilateral relations.
